“Can’t fake the foo”…. That’s the boast of the chicken chain Foosackly’s. They are referring to their homemade sauces and simple goodness of fresh food. We stumbled upon one of these chicken joints a few years ago in Auburn, Alabama. They originated in Mobile, Alabama in the year 2000 with a crew of less than 10 people. Now, they have 15 locations throughout Alabama and Northwest Florida.
They are known for producing high-quality food and it starts from prepping and acquiring the highest quality ingredients possible. Their chicken is fresh and never frozen. They make their sweet tea and lemonade fresh every day. They also have 6 homemade sauces: Foo Sauce, Real Honey Mustard, Buttermilk Ranch, Sweet & Spicy Kung Foo, Smoky BBQ, and Classic Buffalo. From the way I see it, they are the real deal… “Can’t fake the foo!”
Last weekend Cavin and I found ourselves in Spanish Fort, Alabama. It was the perfect February day to leave town and enjoy the company of my best friend. Just like the sauce at Foosackly’s, there’s no faking with him. He knows me better than any other human. You “can’t fake the foo” with someone who has known you for 32 years through the good times, bad times, and ups and downs of life…. We are in the empty nest years of life, and it’s a refreshing time of life to spend with the one that you can’t fake.
Upon arriving in Spanish Fort, we decided to stop in at Dillard’s. When we walked in and found that they were having the sale of all sales – 65% off with an additional 50% off – Cavin knew that my heart was happy. There was no faking it! I love a good sale! When we left Dillard’s with 4 huge bags full of sale items and drove around the corner, I knew Cavin was excited to see the Foosackly’s sign. I knew then that there was no question where we would be grabbing lunch. “Can’t fake the foo…” That stuff is good!
I’ve heard the term, “fake it ’til you make it”; but I’m not sure I agree with it. I was made with a purpose and that’s something I can’t fake. That Foosackly’s sauce was made for a purpose and that purpose was to dip my chicken in and enjoy the flavor of that peppery, spicy sauce that perks up the taste of that hot fried chicken strip. I even like to dip my French fries in it! What if that sauce had tried to fake it before it could make it? I doubt very seriously that Foosackly’s would be the chain they are today.
I’ve been thinking about life a lot lately…. What’s real and what’s fake… What’s important and what’s a waste of time…. How do I want to be remembered when this life is over?… What should I be devoting my time to? …. I don’t want to be a fake. I want to be authentic. I want my life to matter, and I want to make a difference in this world. I want to be in the world, but not of the world. I want to be in the moment and real with those who know me. And who knows me better than the One who made me?
You and I were made for a purpose. We are not in this world by accident. We won’t find true fulfillment until we acknowledge the One who gives meaning to life and makes life make sense. I know that He will help me find my purpose in life and I don’t have to be fake! Thanks, Foosackly’s for reminding me…. “Can’t fake the foo !”
Sampling the South…. One authentic experience at a time!
