Sampling the South

Auburn, Alabama…. “Loveliest village on the plain”…. This East Alabama city is a treasure.  It’s got a small-town atmosphere, but also lots of action going on with Auburn University located here.  I grew up believing that you go to high school and then you go to Auburn!  As a child, I was able to experience the thrill of college football at Jordan Hare Stadium, and when I was old enough to go to Auburn, that’s exactly what I did!

Auburn is located off of I-85 and is just about halfway from home to Atlanta; so it’s a great place to stop for a meal!  Plus, we have family in Auburn, so that’s an even better reason to pull off the highway!  And when a meal and family collide, I’d say you have a winning combination!  And that’s just what happened this past Monday afternoon!

Cavin and I had a meet-up at Baumhower’s Victory Grille with my brother and sister-in-law.  It’s been a favorite of ours for a while!  Our family loves hot wings, and they are known for them!  In fact, they were built on wings 40 years ago, and have added to their menu since then.  They also have top-notch burgers and pizza.  When I heard Cavin order the “Hot Lips”, it made me laugh!  They are actually boneless hot wings tossed with hot sauce.  And yes, when he finished, he had some very hot lips!  I chose the “Gooey Burger”.  This half-pound burger is topped with scratch-made Blanco cheese & applewood-smoked bacon and served on a brioche bun.  It was definitely Baumhower’s for the victory!

We loved SAMPLING AUBURN….  Too bad we didn’t have time to sample a few other restaurants there.  Now on to the next adventure of SAMPLING THE SOUTH…. one restaurant at a time!
