Sampling Duluth, Georgia

Sampling the South

After leaving Jack Brown’s Burger Joint in Birmingham, Cavin and I drove on over to Duluth, Georgia.  And I’m going to be honest with you, we checked into our hotel and I went straight to bed.  I had a throbbing headache and couldn’t even think about ringing in 2022.  I crawled into the bed around 7 pm, slept through the midnight madness of the new year, and woke up around 7 am feeling refreshed, but also rather hungry.

If you’ve never been to Duluth, Georgia, you should go some time.  The downtown area is rather quaint and is adorned with trendy boutiques and restaurants.  I did not take the time to really get dressed or apply makeup.  I threw on a casual sweater just to go through a drive-thru somewhere and bring it back to the hotel.  Besides, who would even know or care?  It’s not like I would see anyone I knew!

Since it was New Year’s Day, there were not a lot of people out and about.  The town had partied hard the night before, so the town was a little “sleepy” that morning.  A building that kind of looked like a chapel seemed to be calling out to us and the name of it really got our attention – Maple Street Biscuit Company.  Did someone say “biscuit”?  As if there was any question, we knew we had to go in!  I could feel my heart beat a little faster with excitement.  Maybe 2022 was going to be a great year!  At least I couldn’t think of a better way to start with our first meal of the year!

The atmosphere was casual, yet captivating.  It was like a warm blanket that’s familiar from the first time you wrap up in it.  Even though it was the first time we had been to this place, it felt like a friend.  We grabbed a menu and chose a biscuit and gravy along with a box of biscuits to go.   We sat down at a table to wait for the order.

Within a few minutes, I heard someone calling out my name – not to say our order was ready. It was the voice of an old friend.  She was wearing a mask so I didn’t recognize her right away.  She pulled down the mask, and I recognized her immediately.  We had a great time catching up with an old friend, who actually works at this restaurant and we didn’t even know it! When I threw on my casual sweater and no makeup, I had no idea I would see an old friend, but it was totally worth it!  I got to catch up with an old friend and meet a new friend – Maple Street Biscuit Company!

We’re getting used to SAMPLING THE SOUTH…. one restaurant at a time!
